Undercloak (or undercloaking) boards are rigid, fibre cement strips designed for use on roof verges, positioned beneath the roof tiles and battens to create a secure, weatherproof edge. They provide a stable, moisture-resistant base for mortar, protecting the timber batten ends from rain.

Application and Installation
- Purpose: Supports a bed of mortar at the verge, creates a clean finish, and prevents water ingress.
- Installation: Installed at the verge, with the smooth side often placed against the brickwork and the rough side up for better mortar adhesion.
- Positioning: Placed on top of the felt (not directly on brick) and under the tile battens, usually with a 2-inch (approx. 50mm) overhang.
- Fixing: Nailed directly into the ends of the roof battens.
